State of Kuwait Embassy - Canberra
The prepared submission was part of an invited concept design competition in 2005 for the State of Kuwait’s new embassy building and residences in Canberra. The brief was complex, and the timeline was tight with only 6 weeks available to prepare the submission from the time the brief was released. Two blocks of land were acquired by the State of Kuwait, one for the proposed embassy site and another for the ambassador’s residence, both located on the same street and only two blocks apart.
We had taken on the project with a focus on delivering a refreshing design concept to Canberra and a building aesthetic that conveyed the culture of its users and the time it was being placed in. Like Canberra, the State of Kuwait has a recent built environment; however, it belongs to a region that has a deep cultural and artistic history.
